How to Host a Vision Board Workshop?

What is a vision board?

Making a vision board sounds like a good idea. But it sounds like a lot of work, too. Am I right? (it really isn’t) Don’t put it off any longer!

To draw more of what you want into your life and ensure your vision board gets made, throw a vision board party (or join my online one). As someone who has attended and hosted many vision board parties), I can totally say that these get-togethers are a great way to define your best life, while helping others realise their dreams. They’re lots of fun, too!

Whether you’re making boards with friends, family or kids — follow these vision board party tips for an inspirational and entertaining event.

What is a vision board

A vision board is a collage that uses the law of attraction to draw more of what you want into your life and helps you realise what and what you don’t need in your life to make these goals happen. Vision boards can focus on something specific like career, love life, or the upcoming year. Or, you can make a board that encompasses your general life intentions. These are great things to get kids involved with, a perfect activity for a rainy day.

To make a vision board that will help you achieve your goals, first cut pictures and phrases out of magazines that represent your desires and goals. You can also print images from websites or include your own photos in the collage. Next, glue the images and words onto a canvas frame and place it somewhere you can see it on a regular basis. (Mine is hanging in my office.) Then look at it daily, remember what you have promised yourself, find new opportunities that will help them manifest and wait for the magic to happen!

Why host a vision board party

Throwing a vision board party motivates you to set aside the time needed to create a vision board to draw positive things into your life. Plus, you will have more magazines from which to select your images and phrases. And it’s a great excuse to get friends or family together!

How to plan a vision board party

When planning your vision board party, keep the number of attendees to a manageable number. I suggest inviting six to ten friends, or however many can comfortably fit around your kitchen or dining room table. Be sure not to invite any Debbie Downers to the shindig, either. You don’t need that kind of energy messing up everyone’s vision boards.

My advice is to skip paper invitations and just send a text, messenger or email invite. The point is to de-stress your life, not add more unneeded tasks. In your messages, you should request a few things. Why not ask each guest to bring a stack of old magazines and their own pair of scissors to keep your own costs down.

What to buy for your vision party

  • A bunch of glue sticks.

  • Lots of pairs of scissors and a pair of left-handed scissors for the lefties in your life.

  • One canvas per person

  • Snacks and drinks to share (lots of sugary treats to keep your energy levels high).

  • Extra magazines.

  • For extra flair, get some stick-on poster letters, shapes, sparkles or phrases.

When to host your party

The start of a new year (and new moon) is a wonderful time to throw a vision board party. Or, you could make boards to celebrate a birthday, graduation or other momentous life change. You do not need to wait for a specific reason. Any time is a good time to get together with friends or family to focus on life goals and happiness during a vision board party! Why not host one as a works team event?

Remember that food and drinks are often the focal point of a typical party, but the main goal of a vision board party is to create a positive physical representation of what you and your guests want out of life. To keep the focus on the boards, steer clear of hosting your party during mealtimes. Instead, choose a late morning or mid-afternoon start time.

Food and drink suggestions

biscuits.jpg

Since hands will be busy flipping through magazines, cutting out images, and gluing things onto poster boards, stick with simple snacks that don’t make a lot of mess. Suggestions include cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, a fruit plate, non-greasy crisps, cookies or muffins. For a festive party with adult attendees, you may want to serve bucks fizz for a morning party or wine and beer at a later party. No matter the age of attendees, it’s always a good idea to have some fun non-alcoholic drinks on hand like sparkling water, juice and craft sodas. Put drinks in iced buckets so guests can serve themselves. To simplify things further for you as the host, you might ask everyone to bring a starter, dessert or drink to share instead.

What to do at your vision board party

To kick off your vision board party, start with introductions and intentions. Go around the table and have all attendees state their name and what they hope to achieve with their vision board. For example, the primary purposes for my latest vision board were to find more: work-life balance, connection with my kids, time in nature, healthy living and, of course, travel.

After setting intentions, get to work. Clip those magazines to pieces. Meanwhile, eat, drink and be merry with your fellow vision board makers!

MY BOARD 18-01-20.jpg

I suggest laying out a general design for your board before you start gluing. You might also want to put a strong image of your central intention in the middle of your board. My own image was of a girl dressed up as wonder woman! For me, this represents my need to help and support many people through my various coaching and mentoring sessions and courses.

You should also leave some white space. This gives room to add additional images as you find them. Plus the white space allows room for serenity on your board. If there is too much chaos, you might just draw chaos to your life!

Be sure to paste everything onto the poster boards AT THE PARTY! At my first vision board party, some of my friends had to leave early and took their clippings and boards home separately. Of course, they intended to glue the pictures to their poster boards. That was years ago and I know at least one friend who has never finished her vision board.

Tips for hosting a vision board party with kids

Making vision boards with kids is a wonderful way to help children focus on being positive. This activity can also give kids a sense of empowerment over how they want to live their lives. Without guidance, children may look at this as merely an opportunity to make a pretty collage or they might just cut out a lot of images of material things like toys and candy, instead of focusing on what truly matters to them. When hosting a vision board party with children, you may need to help kids define what types of things they want to paste to their boards and assist them to find appropriate pictures.

VISION BOARD WITH KIDS.jpg

Ask questions to help kids understand what kinds of things they might want to paste to their boards. Sample questions include:

  • What do you like to do for fun with your friends and family?

  • What are three goals you’d like to achieve (this year/in your life)?

  • At what activity, sport or school subject would you like to improve?

  • What would a really happy day look like for you?

  • If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would that be?

  • Do you have a favourite animal, colour or food that you’d like to add to your vision board?

  • Is there someone you really admire? Who and why?

Once kids have defined some goals and things that bring them joy, you (and other adult participants) can help them find images that match these. Point out relevant images that you find, but leave it up to kids to decide if they belong on their boards. Kids should feel ownership and pride in their vision boards. Only they know what belongs in their vision.

Be open to how your visions are realised

Once you create a vision board to help define what you want in your life, you should work toward your goals but understand that your desires might manifest in different ways than you imagined.

Be ready for cancelled plans, but be aware of how they may turn up again in another opportunity - but you have to keep imagining and dreaming of this goal, how does it feel to touch the sand in your bare feet, how does it feel to open the door to the new car - how does it sound on the open road? (you get the picture!)

Time for another party!

As time moves on, our goals and desires change. Even if you’ve made a vision board in the past, you may consider making another one. I have made several vision boards and  Each board I’ve made is special in different ways.

Why not make these an annual event with friends and take turns hosting or why not get together at work and have a team-building day sharing your goals for the future.

I hope you found this article helpful, let me know in the comments below and if you have any questions at all, come on over to my Facebook Group where I share regular tips and tricks on building a business online

Why You Have to Be Consistent & Focused When Building a Team

Are you ready to build a team?

Sponsoring (or recruiting) however you prefer to call it, in network marketing or direct sales can be scary for some people, it was for me when I added my first team member and my team now stands at 3,000 people. So why do you have to be consistent and focused when building a team in network marketing?

If you talk to those who have successfully built a network marketing business and who are at the “top” levels of the marketing plan you will find that 99% of those consultants have very large downline teams. If that is where you aspire to be someday… you need to get “busy” now with building your own team and that means you need to recruit and to recruit heavily!

For those who are new to network marketing or direct sales… sponsoring people into your network (your team) is one of the most successful ways to reach the top of the ladder within the company you are working with or for. This means you need to be adding newly recruited team members to your own team on a constant basis and weekly basis.

focussed on team building.png

Over time you will find that members who join your team or your downline’s team will come and go (for whatever reason) so you need to be constantly adding new team members to your team on a consistent basis and trust me when I say it’s a 1:10 ratio. For every 10 people you bring into your business, probably only one will do anything so don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, you’re not - it’s just the way it is. You can always look at it as a personal challenge, to make sure its a 5:10 ratio and that would be incredible!

The Numbers

As I mentioned above, sponsoring is usually all about the numbers. I once met a girl who had built her team up to 43 consultants + herself. She then took 6 months off from team building and at the end of those 6 months her team totally fell apart and she was left with 5 members standing and doing anything. What did she do wrong? Well, she took 6 months off from sponsoring and quit adding new members to her team! Like I previously stated…consultants come & go on the flip f a coin so you need to be constantly adding new members! Do not take long periods of time off from sponsoring - you’ve been warned!

If you want to get yourself to the top of the ladder I totally recommend you “try your hardest” to add a minimum of 5-10 new team members to your team each and every month! You need to train your newly added members to go out and sponsor (and to do this consistently also) so that those branches of your tree to continue to grow as you work on growing the main trunk of your tree (your immediate downline team).

If you set a goal of a minimum of 5 new recruits per month…after 12 months you will have a minimum of 60 direct team members. Let’s say that your downline team during that same period of time (one year) brings in another 50 team members to your team…you now have 110 members on your team within just 1 year. On the flip of the dime…you know that not all 110 of those members are going to stay for the long haul and let’s say during that 1 year period of time that 40 leave…you are now back to and you lost the residual income of those 40…that is a BIG DENT in your monthly commission, so we have to take responsibility and keep building and adding to our tree to allow for branches dropping off!

We’re Constantly Moving and Shaking

Team building is a very important part of your business, you need to be constantly recruiting and building your team to reach the top of the compensation plan. As you climb that ladder you will be adding to your income stream…after all, most people are in network marketing and direct sales to make money and to make as much money as they can. Sponsoring/recruiting is one of the biggest ways you can add to your income stream and create a residual income for many years to come.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and do some recruiting!

This is one of my favourite sayings and I share it with my team all the time…

Your business is like a deck of cards

You are going to turn over some three’s and fours when searching, but you will also find some king’s and queens
Don’t be fooled by the jokers, they will always show up but they aces are there somewhere
If you’re not shuffling and dealing those cards every day though, you may never find those aces!

5 Ways You Never Thought About Using a Vision Board

Are you familiar with using a vision board as a tool for keeping your dreams and goals in mind, or maybe your not and this is the first time you have seen one and can see how powerful they can be.

But did you know also know that you can use a vision board in a variety of ways, depending on your needs? In fact, you might even want to have more than one vision board, to keep your dreams for the various areas of your life and business clear.

Business Planning

This vision board is where you’ll keep track of why and how you do what you do. You started your business for a reason - your “why.” But somewhere along the way, many of us lose sight of this goal.

A business planning vision board can help keep us on track.

On it, you’ll keep images that represent your ideal business, such as working from the beach, speaking in front of a large crowd, achieving top seller status, or even a big fancy office if that’s your thing.

Life Goals

Where do you want to be in five, ten, or twenty years? That’s not just a question from a bad job interview, it’s a critical consideration for anyone who wants to live a life of purpose and meaning, and a vision board is a perfect tool for staying on track.

This vision board—like all of them—is fluid and in a constant state of change. As your life goals change and grow, so will your vision board. Maybe you no longer want to live in Paris. That’s ok. Replace the city of lights with a relaxing mountaintop retreat if that’s your thing.

But do keep your life goals vision board updated and refer to it each time you have to make a major decision. It will help clarify the direction you need to take to achieve your life’s dreams.

Holiday Planning

Heading off on an amazing holiday with the family? Don’t leave your journey to chance. Capture all your “must-see” destinations on a vision board so you don’t miss anything.

Even better, invite your kids and spouse to join you, and create a fun planning tool the entire family can use. The kids will be excited about your trip, and you’ll be sure everyone gets to see and do everything they hoped for. By planning ahead, you’ll ensure everyone has the epic vacation of their dreams.

Home Buying

Pinterest has built an entire business around what amounts to a digital vision board—much of it devoted to home décor. If you’re looking for a new home, or simply remodeling the one you have, then a vision board is a great way to organise your plans.

Snip photos of the style of home you love, colour combos to try, landscaping ideas, and anything else that strikes your fancy. Keeping your home-buying vision board close at hand will save you time in your search by reminding you exactly what you’re looking for.

Client/Customer/Team Member Attracting

Every business has an ideal client and customer (and us network marketers it can be team members too), but this seemingly simple thing can be incredibly difficult to define. A vision board can and will help you out big time with that!

Is your ideal customer male or female? Young or old? Successful or not? Does he or she have kids or a home or a business? Is she confident or timid? Athletic or overweight? What are their issues right now?

Create a collection of images that represent your ideal client and refer to it each time you are tempted (as we all are) to sign a client or team member who is less than ideal.

The Ultimate Team Leader Check List for Network Marketers and Direct Sellers

Network Marketing and Direct Sales Leadership is about connecting with the people on your team, getting close to them and creating a “family” like culture.

Now you ask, how can that be done effectively? By paying close attention to what you would want yourself in a leader of course.

Below are my leadership tips that will help you develop a strong, passionate team that is connected to you and connected every person that joins you.

Body Language

Like it or not, people pay attention to how you carry yourself, even when you are silent. Here’s how to express an attitude that’s appropriate for a leader.

Make Eye Contact - Always look directly into the eyes of your team or potential new recruits. This shows you’re interested and also gives you a sense of confidence.
Face the person you’re talking to - This shows you are interested and engaged in the conversation.
Always smile - Smiles are something people love. Smile at the people you are talking to. They will feel invited to engage with you.
Look your best - You don’t have to be dressed to the nines every day but you should dress appropriately and neatly. Clothes can have a big impact on the way you’re perceived. Represent your business, your team and the company you represent every single day, you don’t know who you will bump in to next, so look the amazing leader you are.

Dependability

Being one of the top team leaders in your team and company, your team also want to know they can depend on you. When you say you are going to do something, keep your promise.

Only promise what you can realistically deliver -  Don’t promise your team things that you know you cannot come through with. Only promise things that you know you can make happen. Being dependable is one of the top things that team members will respect in you.
Set clear goals - Make your to-do list weekly and monthly. I put everything down in my planner every night the things I need to do the following day.
Organise your team - Many of your team members will have strengths and training that they can bring to top. Showcase their skills and get them involved in doing training and webinars as a team. The more you duplicate what you can do will strengthen your team.
Delegate tasks - Have your team do things to help the team as a whole. This will take things off you and also help train them to be the amazing leader that you know they can be.
Direct Sales Leadership means keeping communication open - Stay in touch with your team on a weekly or monthly basis. Whether you use texting, phone calls, Facebook messages or videos. Even a simple hello will let your consultants know you are thinking of them.
Stay organised - Staying organised will help keep you on top of what is going on and what you need to get done. When you accomplish the same things on a monthly basis, your team will see your consistency and start following your lead.

Trust & Recognition

A happy fun-loving team who feels comfortable asking questions is a happy one.  Everyone will be more cheerful if you follow these simple rules.

Don’t play favourites - Of course you will make friends with people on your team or even bring on close friends but try to give the same advice and help to everyone on your team no matter who they are. Also teach your team this same attribute. It will keep everyone closer.
Give credit to your team - Did your consultants have an idea or go above and beyond? Give them credit and shout outs. This will build their confidence and make them want to repeat doing things for the team.
Never discuss consultant matters with other members of the team -This kind of gossip always gets back to the person and will make you look unprofessional.
Keep your promises - If you promise a consultant something, then keep your promise. It’s that simple. If your consultants see you are undependable, they won’t trust you. When there is no trust like any relationship, things fall apart.
Recognise a job well done - Make sure your consultants feel recognised for a well-run business. Consultants will be more willing to put in extra effort if they know it’s noted and appreciated by their upline.
Provide motivation - Sometimes consultants just need a boost. Provide them with encouragement and support. Something that I always let my team know is that I understand if LIFE happens. Our team is not here to judge them but only to provide support not matter what is going on.

Manage Yourself

Having good Network Marketing Leadership characteristics isn’t just about what you can encourage others to do, it’s also about managing your own performance.

Be Accessible - Make a pact to return calls or messages within 24 hours. If you go on holiday or are having some family time-out, be sure there is another leader that your team can contact. Let them know that they can always come to you with problems and concerns.
Be open to constructive criticism - It may not always be what you want to hear, but listening to constructive criticism gives you the chance to learn and grow from your mistakes.
Accept responsibility - Part of being great when it comes to Direct Sales Leadership is accepting responsibility for the mistakes that you WILL make. There is no perfect person and every person will make a mistake. Be open to accepting when you do and taking steps to improve things.
Know there’s always room for improvement - As I stated above, no one is perfect. Education should be a huge part of your Network Marketing and Direct Sales business and you should always be willing to learn.
Improve your skills - Learning is a something that you need to do in order to continuously be a better mentor and person. You’re never too old to take a webinar, fond a coach or undertake a course in order to improve yourself.
Get regular feedback - Ask your team how you can improve, what they need from you or what you can do to help get them to the next level. Be open to hearing what they say. This will show them that you really care about being the best mentor you can for them.
Know your limitations - You can’t be everywhere doing everything all at once. Know the limits of your time and abilities and say no to things you know you can’t do.

Boosting Productivity

Getting the most out of your day may not be very easy with a busy schedule, but you can use these tips to help you maximize your time in order to be better available to your team

Get the most out of meetings - We have team trainings every single week. It is important to connect with your team and know what you want to talk about so they get the most out of being part of when you meet. Be organised and prepared for meetings to increase effectiveness and time savings. Keep your zooms or lives exciting and make your consultants want to never miss one. Your team duplicate what you do, so if you’re not showing up to training (or even doing them yourself) you can’t expect your team to do the same.
Focus your energy on things that matter - Don’t focus on gossip, negativity or things that will not help your team’s businesses grow. Focus on the good and productivity.
Identify your time-suckers - Everyone has moments where they get distracted. Figure out what these are and work to eliminate them, if only for a few hours a day.
Be punctual - Being on time is a big deal. Never keep people waiting for appointments or meetings. Value your team’s time as you want them to value yours.
Respond to your email and Facebook messages within a reasonable amount of time - You don’t have to be chained to your inbox but try to make it clear that you will do everything you can to respond to your messages within 24 hours. Sooner if possible.
Stick to schedules and routines - Yes, they can get redundant but schedules, routines and consistency will show your team you are dependable and improve your productivity.
Eat That Frog, Yes Do your least favourite tasks first - Get your most tedious and least desirable tasks out of the way earlier in the day. After that, everything else will be a breeze.

Communicating with Customers

Remember your customers and Hostesses are the boss - At the end of the day, your job is to make the customer happy. Do whatever you can to make sure your customers have the best experience.
Retain a strong customer base even when you get new ones - While you always want to bring in new business, it’s very important to maintain relationships with loyal customers. Touch base with them and do whatever you can to make sure they know you as their favourite consultant lady.
Provide effective channels of communication - Make sure your customers can contact you easily and quickly if they have a problem, concern or question. Like your consultants, be sure you ask them for their feedback so they know you truly care and appreciate their business.
Provide the Follow-up - Don’t let contact fall off. It’s not enough to just sell one time. Connect with your customers. Build the relationship.
Listen attentively - Pay attention to what your customers are asking for so that they keep coming back to you.
Don’t be afraid to say you don’t know - It’s OK not to know the answer to every question. Customers and consultants will respect you more if you are honest with them. They don’t expect you to know everything, but they do expect you to be honest.

Keep Up with Change

Adopt a predictive leadership style - Don’t wait for things to happen to make a move. Anticipate problems and provide contingency plans.
Test your contingency plans - Keeping things quiet and not preparing for them can be disastrous way to lead your team. Get your core people in place and know what to do during busy times, launches or other changes that may be coming.
Identify the positives - Even the most negative changes can have positive aspects to them. Keep your team focused on the positives at all times and explain to them that change or bumps in the road happen with every business
Be quick to adapt - Learn to adapt to changing situations quickly and be able to change plans on the spur of the moment if the situation requires it. Have faith in your company and always have their back in regards to their decisions. If you don’t, you will find a team full of negative nellies and we all have the odd one, we definitely don’t want a whole team of them!

Resolving Problems

Whether problems are internal or external, they can make your management duties a nightmare if you don’t handle them correctly. Here’s how to stay on top of them.

Stand up for your consultants - In leadership, you must be the voice of your consultants. Let your upline know what their thoughts are.
Manage and control your emotions - Don’t let anger or frustration affect your problem resolution. If you are emotionally invested in a situation, cool down before discussing it or bring in an outside mediator.
Learn when to step in - Some problems might resolve themselves if you just let them be, but you need to be aware of times where you’ll need to step in and take control of a situation.
Take the blame - If you’ve made a mistake, fess up. It’ll give you more time to work on fixing the problem instead of talking your way out of taking the rap.
Get the facts first - Before you pass judgment on a situation, make sure you have the whole story. Listen to your consultants and refrain from questioning anyone’s integrity without knowing all of the full story.
Rise above the crisis - Learn to separate yourself from the problem and rise above the fray. You’ll be able to think more clearly and make a better decision on how to rectify the issue. Your team will respect you for staying calm and handling things the way a leader should.
Don’t ignore problems - A small problem can easily snowball and become something much more difficult to fix.

Go Above and Beyond in your Leadership

Leadership isn’t about bossing people around or being at the top with a sparkly title. To truly be a great leader, sometimes you need to go above and beyond what the people expect.

Lead by example - You can talk until you’re blue in the face, but the best way to get a point across is to walk the walk. Your team will follow your lead.
Get your hands dirty - Sometimes you need to show your team that you are doing exactly what you are teaching them to do.
Make a difference to your consultants - Don’t just be a generic leader. Forget levels or lines. Treat your team as one family. Help everyone. Be there for everyone.
Gain your consultants’ trust and respect - You’ll have a much easier time connecting with your team when they respect you and trust your leadership.
Be empathetic to personal problems - Whether it should or not, what happens outside of work can have a big effect on your consultant’s businesses. Be sensitive if consultants have personal issues that keep them from concentrating on their business.
Be unique as a Leader - Every position title asks something different. March to the beat of your own drum and shake things up. Be different.
Remember that ethics matter above all - Be honest and reliable in all of your business and personal relationships.
Be on the lookout for new ideas - You never know where your next great inspiration will come from. Think beyond just being a consultant. Always make your business about helping others and new ideas to do that.
Get to know your team members - Learn more than just their names. Get to know your consultants, family backgrounds, likes and dislikes. Doing so will make you more relatable to them. They will truly feel apart of a family and make your leadership techniques something that they want to duplicate.
