10 Benefits of Detoxing your Body

You may have heard of “detoxing your body.” But have you tried it for yourself?

If you’ve been considering a detox but aren’t sure, learning about the many benefits of detoxing will help you make up your mind.

Detox diets get rid of toxins in the body and develop the habits that will keep you on track for a healthier life.

As you may know, the body has its own natural detox methods. The liver, sweat, and urine are all ways your body rids itself of toxins.

However, sometimes these vital organs work too hard and need a break. A detox diet is a great way to take the pressure off your organs, so you can keep them strong for the future.

There are many different types of detox diets, and each one will give you slightly different results. But no matter which you choose, the benefits of detoxing can’t be denied. Let’s take a look at 10 ways a detox diet can benefit you.

1. Weight Loss and Management

There are many reasons to do a detox besides losing weight. But if weight loss is one of your goals, a detox diet can be a great way to jumpstart your progress.

Detoxing can also help with long-term weight management. If you’re at an ideal weight but want to make sure you stay there, try a detox to keep your body on track.

One of the best things about a detox is that it doesn’t just help right now — it sets you up to have healthy habits in the future. So even after you’re done with the detox, you’ll have the habits you need to keep on track for future weight loss or weight maintenance.

2. More Energy

An energy boost is one of the first benefits of detoxing you’ll notice.

Who doesn’t want more energy to get them through the day? Between work, family, hobbies, exercise, and a social life, the modern world demands a lot from us.

Detoxing takes away things like sugar and caffeine that cause energy crashes, leaving you with more stable energy throughout the day.

3. Aids Internal Organs

As mentioned above, detoxing helps your body out with toxin removal. It purifies toxins that your organs may not be able to keep up with, and gives those organs that are responsible for waste removal a much-needed rest.

Even if your liver, kidneys, and other organs are in healthy working order, your body may still be storing more toxins than you realize. A detox is a great way to get rid of those toxins and help your internal organs to their job more effectively.

4. Better Immune System

Since detoxing takes some of the workload off your organs, they can then do a better job of protecting your body from illness. You’ll absorb much-needed nutrients faster, like Vitamin C, which is known to be great for the immune system.

If you’re on a detox that involves taking certain herbs, you might also experience a boost to the lymphatic system. This system is partially responsible for keeping you healthy and toxin-free, so you’ll want it working well.

5. Nicer Breath

The removal of toxins from your body has some pleasant side effects besides improving your health.

One of the benefits of detoxing is better breath. Your digestive system will be able to function better, removing some of the causes of bad breath.

However, keep in mind that during the detox your breath may actually get worse, because your body is adjusting to the changes and releasing the toxins. After it’s done, you’ll see the benefits.

6. Clearer Skin

You can use all the most elaborate skincare regimes, but if your diet isn’t healthy, you’ll still experience skin problems. A detox is one of the surefire ways to clear up your skin.

Some detoxes even include a sauna element, so you’ll be able to literally sweat out some of the toxins that clog your pores. But even if you only use diet, you’ll still see results.

As with your breath, sometimes the issue will get worse during the detox itself, and clear up after the detox is over. So be prepared for a new breakout or skin issue while your body is in the detoxification process.

7. Improved Thinking

For clearer thoughts and a better memory, detoxing is the way to go.

The benefits of detoxing aren’t just physical. In fact, many detoxes include ways to care for your mind, as well as your body. You might use meditation as part of your detox plan, for example.

The sugar crashes and other negative effects of an unhealthy diet can also affect your mind. Once you’ve experienced this detox benefit, you’ll never want to go back.

8. Shinier Hair

Shiny, healthy hair is yet another benefit of detoxing. Your follicles need the right nutrients to grow healthy hair. A buildup of toxins prevents those nutrients from getting where they need to be and often results in dry, brittle, broken tresses.

You might also see faster growth, making this a great idea for anyone planning to grow out their hair.

9. Slowed Signs of Ageing

Growing older is a beautiful thing, but we don’t always want the outward signs of aging that come with it.

Detoxing helps you slow down the visible signs of aging by reducing toxins that contribute to the skin damage we usually associate with growing older.

10. Enjoy Your Food

One of the myths of detoxing is that you won’t enjoy anything you eat during the process.

The reality is that a detox diet can actually help you enjoy your food more. This doesn’t mean you won’t experience cravings for sugar and the other things you cut out of your diet — at least at first.

However, detoxing increases your connection with, and awareness of, the things you’re putting in your body. You’ll be eating healthy, well-rounded meals mindfully, and you can still use some of the foods you love while incorporating new things that you may learn you love too.

How you can use honey to pamper your hair & skin

Legend has it that honey was Cleopatra’s preferred weapon in her beauty arsenal, and now science is catching up to what many women have known for years. Honey, especially raw or unpasteurised, is a fabulously versatile and all-natural ingredient to use on skin. It’s full of antioxidants, which are good for wrinkles and aging skin. It is antibacterial, which helps with acne treatments and prevention. It clarifies skin by opening up and unclogging pores. It’s also a great moisturiser that soothes irritation and blemishes, and it leaves a lovely afterglow.

Try the following honey recipes for an effective, at-home spa treatment and really pamper your hair & skin.

1. Moisturising honey masks

Make sure your hair is pulled back from your face before starting one of these recipes. Your face will feel clean and soft afterwards.

1) Scoop a generous spoonful of honey into your hand and spread all over your face. Rub it into your skin and let sit for 5-30 minutes. Rinse with warm water. 2) Combine 1 tbsp buttermilk, 1 tsp honey, and 1 egg yolk. Apply to clean skin and let sit 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

2. Honey facial cleanser

Honey is good at dissolving makeup residue, especially when mixed with a gentle oil. Combine honey and jojoba OR coconut oil to create an easily spreadable texture. Rub it into your skin, avoiding eye area, to loosen makeup and unclog pores. Rinse with warm water.

3. Honey almond body scrub

This scrub is finger-licking good. The texture from the ground almonds exfoliates the skin, while both the almonds and honey moisturize. Combine 2 tsp. ground almonds and 2 tsp. honey to form a paste. Rub into your face with a circular motion. Rinse with warm water. You could easily increase the quantities to treat your whole body.

4. Honey skin lotion

If you’re feeling that dry winter skin coming on, mix a spoonful of honey with a teaspoon of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice (a natural skin brightener). Apply this lotion to dry areas and let sit for 20 minutes. Wipe off with a warm face cloth.

5. Lemon-honey facial treatment

This is a fun one that’s a bit different. Lemons are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. They also contain alpha hydroxy acids that exfoliate. Cut a lemon in half and remove the seeds. Add 1 tsp honey to one of the lemon halves. Rub the cut side all over your face. Let it sit 5 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

6. Honey hair shine-boosting rinse

There are two options. 1) Combine a spoonful of honey with 1 litre of warm water. Rinse through hair after shampooing. Let it condition for an hour, then rinse. 2) Mix 1-1/2 tsp honey with 5 cups warm water. Rinse through hair and leave on. Dry and style as usual.

7. Cleopatra’s milk-and-honey bath soak

Combine ¼ cup honey with 2 cups milk and a few drops of essential oil. Add to a hot bath, sit back, and relax.

8. Honey exfoliant

Use this scrub once a week to soften and clarify your skin. Mix 2 parts honey with 1 part baking soda and rub into your face. This is also good for a full body scrub.

7 Ways to Reduce Foot Pain

So you’ve been at work all day, your feet are throbbing and the pain is unbearable, what is the most pleasurable thing to do… have a lovely hot foot soak, don’t you agree?

Because we all spend so much time on our feet, this is an even bigger reason why we should be looking after them. This article is going to share with you, seven tips for gorgeous feet.

How to have gorgeous feet & reduce foot pain

1. Wear Shoes that Fit

Some people are on their feet more than others - for example, waitresses and those who go on long daily runs, but we should all be wearing comfortable, well-fitting shoes, whenever possible. The wrong shoes will wear your feet down pretty quickly. Shoes that are too small or just rub your feet the wrong way can cause unsightly blisters and corns. You should be especially careful when bringing home a new pair. Most shoes take a while to break in, so you shouldn’t wear those cute new heels three days in a row.

2. Soak Your Feet Often

From time to time everyone’s feet will have rough or dry skin. To keep them soft and clean, be sure to soak your feet regularly. There is a number of fancy foot baths out there, but you really just need a bucket of warm water for a good soak. You can add some olive oil and a few drops of scented essential oil of your choice (rose essential oil will be great) for additional luxury. It’s best to soak your feet for, approximately, ten to fifteen minutes; otherwise, your feet will become pruned, which isn’t very effective, if you’re trying to remove dead skin.

3. Scrub

After you’ve soaked your feet for a while, be sure to give them a good scrub to smooth rough or dry areas. You can use a foot or facial scrub if you’d like or you can take your feet out of the water and use a pumice stone to massage the rough areas. Remember: a pumice stone is more effective when your feet are still damp and you should always go with the grain of your feet.

4. Let Your Feet Breathe

It’s a good habit to take your shoes off after you get home so that you can let your feet breathe. Otherwise, the sweat and dirt that build up in your shoes during the day - yes, your feet sweat, even if you always wear cotton socks - will continue to wear on your feet after hours. In the winter, you can also put on a fresh pair of cotton socks or slippers, especially, if you wash and lotion your feet beforehand, as the socks help lock in moisture. If you allow dirt and sweat to stay on your feet longer than necessary, you’re creating a breeding ground for athlete’s foot and other diseases.

5. Remove Your Polish

Over time, nail polish can wear down your nails. Before reapplying new polish, be sure to remove all of the old layers. If you can, let your toenails go polish-free for few hours and then, apply a polish that helps strengthen your nails.

6. Trim Your Nails to a Suitable Length

Broken and ingrown toenails aren’t just unsightly — they’re also painful. To prevent these ailments, make a point to regularly trim your toenails. Just be sure not to make the nail too short, as this can also cause discomfort.

7. Moisturising treatment

If you want your feet to feel baby soft, you need to invest in a good foot cream or use natural oils. In general, your feet need a thicker cream than the rest of your body, as the skin on your feet is also thicker. Choose a cream with Vitamin E and coconut oil to keep your feet at their smoothest. Coconut oil foot massage is another simple way to soothe and hydrate tired feet. If you have some serious dry skin issues on your feet, try an overnight moisturizing treatment: simply massage your feet with cocoa butter and then, put on your favourite pair of cotton socks. Your feet will feel much softer when you wake up in the morning.

Always use a good foot cream routine and moisturise before bed.
